Art Lesson for April 20-24

Printing with LEGOS

This lesson is for all K-3 students.

Printing is transferring a shape or image onto another surface.  Your assignment is to make a picture using printed Lego shapes.  What can you make?  Some ideas are a castle, a robot, a garden, a city, a car, a train, or you can come up with your own idea.

I made a robot with silver paint on black paper.

Step 1:  Choose cool looking Legos to print with.  Look for different shapes and sizes. You'll be printing with the bottom of the Lego.

Step 2: Choose your paint and paper.  Any liquid paint will work.  If you can't find plain paper, you can cut apart a grocery bag or use the back of another piece of paper.

Step 3:  Cover your work surface with newspaper or paper bags.  Put a small amount of paint on a paper plate.  You can do as many colors as you want.

Step4:  Dip the bottom of the Lego in the paint and press it on the paper.  You might want to practice on your newspaper or paper bag first to test the shape.

Ty made a castle with knights.

Step 5:  Clean up your Legos or the paint will stick!  I used an old toothbrush to get the paint out of the grooves.

Step 6:  When the paint is dry, you can add details by drawing people in your castle or coloring in the sky and the grass.  What other details can you think of?

I can't wait to see what you create!  Please email me a picture of your masterpiece!
