First graders designed thier own gingerbread boys and girls. I don't normally use patterns, but for this project I've found that having a pattern for the outline of the cookie is helpful because students can concentrate on the creative aspect of the project: the decorating! After hearing a story called Gingerbread Mouse, I taught students to draw designs on their "cookie" with oil pastels and then to paint with brown watercolor. It's a great one-day project.
Do you recognize Luke Skywalker?
