We are leaving the year of the dragon and entering the year of the snake. Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in the Chinese culture. It's a time of new beginnings and starting fresh. This inspired a really fun drawing lesson for 3rd graders - dragons. We looked at many pictures of Asian dragons from China, Japan and Korea. We even watched a video where a street vendor in China makes a dragon of melted sugar in about two minutes - it was amazing! For our project, we made sure to include scales, spikes, claws, four legs, sharp teeth, and a long serpent body. The materials used were metallic colored pencils and 12X18 black construction paper.
