First graders used tempera paint to create this adorable close-up snowman. Before we started the project, we talked about the art element space. Space is all about how close or far the subject of the picture is to the viewer. Students said that the snowman was close because he's so big that you can't see his whole body - it disappears off the edge of the paper. After drawing and painting the snowman, students used Q-tips to add falling snow to the background. The last step was to outline everything with a back Sharpie and add a mouth and eyes.
