Abstract Coniferous Trees

Abstract art is simply art where the artist has applied his or her imagination to something from real life.  Students looked at many examples of abstract trees before we began this project.  I told them that the subject of this project is a coniferous tree, not a deciduous tree.  We discussed the difference.  Students decided that a triangle would be an appropriate shape to represent this kind of tree.  We started by drawing in pencil, and then covered the pencil with crayon.  Students then created their own cool colored watercolor paint by mixing standard colors.  The unexpected colors and the simplistic shapes make this an abstract painting.
Cover the pencil lines with crayon.  We used construction paper crayons by Crayola.
Paint each area with cool colors.
