Robert Indiana LOVE Art

I'm sure you've seen the work of Robert Indiana before, or at least work ispired by his iconic LOVE art.  His art was used by the U.S. Postal Service in 1973 as the very first "love stamp."
Third graders drew the letters L, O, V, and E on small white pieces of paper and then colored them with oil pastel.  I demonstrated six watercolor techniques on the board for them, and they chose four to use over each of their letters.

Finally, they glued their letters onto black construction paper.  They had a choice of making the letters stacked like Indiana's, or they could use long narrow paper to line the letters up as we'd normally write them.
