Complementary Colored Name Boxes

First graders focused on making interesting lines as they wrote the letters of their names in boxes with crayons.  Once they had made unique letters while pressing hard with their crayons, they used watercolors to paint in each box carefully.  I talked about how colors across from each other on the color wheel are completely unrelated, and therefore, make each other look brighter and better when paired together.  These are the complementary colors.  Students painted the boxes with a color that complemented the color of the letter in that box.
