Students leaned about the art of curling strips of paper to make art - quilling. Did you know it began with monks and nuns? They used to cut strips of paper from the edges of the pages of books and make art. Since we just finished a unit on measurement, I thought I would have students measure and cut some strips, but I soon gave in and shredded paper instead. These students could either make their initial or a snowflake. If your are planning on making this project, I suggest starting with a smaller piece of paper, like 6 X 6, so the project doesn't take FOREVER to complete.
